I booked this getaway for my parents. I flew... read more all the way from Abu Dhabi. I have never stayed in dinokeng and have only heard positive reviews. I booked 1 villa and 2 chalets. However, when we got there they checked us in as if nothing was wrong. When we noticed there was no electricity we asked the receptionist what was wrong with the power she could t answer. We later found out that they had no electricity since the day before and they failed to mention this to us. She checked us in as if it’s normal it was so hot it was at least 36-40 degrees C
And they wanted us to stay there without ventilation and no power. And this is self catering units which means whatever food you bought was going to get spoiled and they had no idea what time the power was going to be switched on. Myself and my family was very uncomfortable I tried to get more information from the receptionist and she could not provide me any. I asked to speak to the owner. I was told that I the customer was being unreasonable because as a customer I have to accept that I am paying for luxery accommodation in South Africa that doesn’t always have electricity. But then they didn’t have any back system in place if the electricity gets cut. And you the customer just have to deal with it. Then have to be told that I the customer who paid 15 500 Rand to stay there was asking to much and being unreasonable for the fact that they could not be asked to send and email to inform us that hey had No electricity since the day before or try to accommodate us on a future date or half of the refund or a coupon. I was made to feel like I was a problem and I should accept it because this is South Africa. I have stayed in other places had problems and solutions was provided straight away. And I have gone back, I will NEVER GO BACK OR BOOK THIS PLACE AGAIN. They stole my money and made us feel unwelcome. And refused a refund. The owner was so rude she even told me that I had no reason to complain because she had cancer, and have been dealing with ESKOM all day. How dare you. Not to mention that with no electricity there is no security the gate is open. Meaning anyone can just walk in and they definitely do not have any sexy personnel on the property we checked.

While the fans help slightly, the stifling heat may prove a bit much for some at the height of summer. The private splashcpool came in very handy indeed. On arrival, we were greeted by the charming and hospitable Philip and Cynthia, who welcomed us with smiles, an excellent juice cocktail, warm towels, and insightful information. It was my birthday weekend, and I was blown away at the lengths that Cynthia and her team went to make the occasion memorable. Cynthia had a beautiful and romantic table setting arranged on arrival, which was the day before my birthday. On the day of my birthday, Cynthia sang beautifully to wish me, arranged the table with balloons and a birthday card and ensured that the table was once again arranged to create a unique and romantic atmosphere. Every day Philip would arrive to set up the boma with an eliminating friendly smile.

The accommodation is in good condition and comfortable. One can really rest there. We are grateful for the little things such as the laying out of a starter "kit" in the boma, they gave us wood because the power went out, romantic setting of the dining table, etc.

I have not seen Hospitality like I have seen from Tienie and Gerd and staff.
